Tendo em conta as recentes decisões das autoridades americanas e portuguesas para tentar conter a epidemia do COVID-19, que implicaram fortes restrições do funcionamento de serviços, e no sentido de garantir a proteção de utentes, funcionários e famílias, a Secretaria de Estado da Comunidades Portuguesas, com a concordância da Embaixada de Portugal em Washington, D.C., autorizou o encerramento ao público dos Postos Consulares da Rede Consular de Portugal nos EUA, até nova ordem, a partir de terça-feira, 17 de março de 2020.
Assim, o Consulado Geral em Newark encerrará ao público a partir dessa data. Todas as marcações existentes serão canceladas (sendo reagendadas logo que seja retomado o atendimento ao público).
O consulado assegurará apenas o atendimento de emergências devidamente comprovadas, a comunicar para o email [email protected] e para o telefone 973 643 4200 ou para o Gabinete de Emergência Consular (atendimento 24 horas): 011 351 217 929 714 / 011 351 961 706 472; [email protected] .

Taking into account the recent decisions of the American and Portuguese authorities to try to contain the COVID-19 epidemic, which implied severe restrictions on the functioning of services, and in order to guarantee the protection of users, employees and their families, the Secretariat of State of the Portuguese Communities, with the agreement of the Portuguese Embassy in Washington, D.C., authorized the closure to the public of all Portuguese consular posts in the United States until further notice, from Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
Therefore, the Consulate General in Newark will be closed as of that date and all existing appointments are canceled (and will be rescheduled as soon as the service to the public is resumed).
The consulate will only handle cases in person when they are duly documented emergencies. These should be flagged to the consulate (973 643 4200; [email protected]) or to the Consular Emergency Office (24 hours service): 011 351 217 929 714 / 011 351 961 706 472; [email protected] .
